A thought on words

Chances are, whatever you think I think,  is an assumption you’ve made. By that, I mean I tell you something and you assume you understand the words coming out of my mouth. Often though, those words are mixed with passion, frustration, joy, and every other underlying reason, which led to the emittance of the very words you based your assumptions on my thoughts to begin with…So who really knows what I’m saying in the end…

My humanly instincts tell me this sort of interaction- telling and assuming- is common between most humans. Until we can find some way to entirely immerse ourselves in someone else’s brain, I’d argue this is the fate of language.

Now, I believe words are powerful- they can hurt and heal, confuse and clarify- and sometimes they have zero meaning at all. For some reason  or another though, our tongues have evolved into quite a miraculous body part…Language must hold some importance to our lives. The part that I have an issue with, is when language is used in place of truth, like it tells us all there is to know.

For example, from my perspective, this world couldn’t be more beautiful or perfect than what it is, but for some reason, people seem to think I think differently; they tell me they think the things I write mean something else; rather than an observation or the broad idea I meant to pose. And of course, what I say (and write), can mean something different to each and every individual who listens (or reads) what I am saying.

A single word can have several meanings, and the way words are linked, can change everything (never mind the mood and/or tone it is said/written in.) Moral of the story, language is a confusing matter- I blame no individual for the misunderstanding of the words they hear.  In the end, what really matters is how  we use what we’ve just heard.

I guess what I am getting at here, is that language is only part of what we (humans) are really trying to say. The information which exists in silence, is infinite; if truth is what we seek, then we musn’t forget to be quiet and feel with all 6 senses. Only once we’ve begun to dig past the verbal can we even begin to assume with any sort of accuracy.
