If Mountains Made Sense

Life would be infinitely easier if mountains made sense…

They are these huge, alluring, seductive beasts. They are creatures who know the human spirit more than the human knows their own. They have the ability to converse with the body, speak with the mind, and give a hug to the heart.  They are lava and land that’s cooled and risen.

These wise old hills, encourage people to do insane things. They entice the human to crawl in the void of true potential, and help them experience life at the deepest level. To those who call on him, a mountain becomes a brother. Yet, a mountain is all but a pile of rock and dirt.

Mountains are such peculiar things…

It’s like, somewhere along the line, the Mountain Spirit and the Human Spirit, became one; all for reasons which we’ll never know. It is intense and complicated, and happened with minimal conscious choice. Yet, so empowering, so beautiful and understanding, it is difficult to turn away.

The man-made world is self-explainable, we created it; the second on the other hand, is a blind faith in unquantifiable, but undeniable, matters. And no, taking soil samples, does not explain the phenomenon a mountain man experiences. Psychologists and neuoscientists, can surely report a positive correlation between humans and nature- but they really cannot explain why.

Perhaps it is now obvious why skyscrapers and backed up traffic, are no replacement for mountains and dense forests?

A Human Spirit touched by the Mountain Spirit, knows this; he will spend his entire life researching this unquantifiable world with great dedication. He won’t be paid for it, but he’ll surely be harassed about his societal contributions. He also won’t mind, because he knows that, if mountains made sense, life would be infinitely easier.
